BOCA RATON, Florida – Cohen Laser and Vision Center, a world-class care facility in South Florida, is now using Beyeonics One® an augmented-reality visualization system that allows ophthalmologists to perform eye surgeries with greater precision while optimizing patient safety.

Beyeonics One is a digital ophthalmic microscope equipped with a highly-specialized headset developed from similar technology used by fighter pilots. With invisible light (infrared) technology, it provides surgeons with visibility beyond the traditional spectrum, enhancing precision even in the most complex anterior and posterior surgeries. The system enables eye surgeons to see sharp, highly magnified images of the eye when performing operations, along with surgical data and important patient diagnostic information that helps ensure accuracy in real-time.

The system’s unique “third hand” capability and intuitive head gestures boost independence and efficiency, while integrated automation enhances workflow. Surgeons wearing the headset and control unit can use head gestures to quickly adjust the image in front of them and display the information they need. This design also minimizes the need for ophthalmologists to bend and stoop during surgery, helping to reduce neck and back strain.

The technology is a significant leap forward from the standard surgical microscope, an analog tool that has been used by ophthalmologists for decades but requires the use of high-intensity visible light, and sometimes dyes, to give surgeons an adequate view of the eye tissue. Most importantly, since the Beyeonics platform offers better visualization while using less light intensity, patients enjoy a more comfortable intraoperative experience and quicker visual recovery.

“The Beyeonics One ophthalmic digital microscope is a game changer for our practice and for our patients,” said Dr. Joshua Cohen, MD, who runs Cohen Laser & Vision Center after the recent retirement of his father and CLVC’s founder, Dr. G. Richard Cohen, MD. “We are delighted to be able to offer the most advanced tools in service of our patients, and we believe this technology will further enhance our record of safety and patient satisfaction.”

Developed by an Israeli medical technology company, Beyeonics One has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Peer-reviewed research has shown it works successfully and safely, even for highly complex procedures such as endothelial keratoplasty, a type of cornea transplant.

Cohen Laser & Vision Center has been recognized as a leading center for refractive eye surgery for over 30 years. The center specializes in advanced cataract and corneal surgery, LASIK, ICL, glaucoma, and diagnostic eye exams. Drs. Richard and Joshua Cohen and their colleagues have performed over 30,000 vision correction surgeries and pride themselves on using the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment. The center offers comprehensive surgical eye care to South Floridians from Fort Lauderdale north to West Palm Beach, including Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Boynton Beach, and all of Palm Beach County.
